Have you Rode the Duck?!

If you haven't yet rode The Duck, then you should! Corney and goofy, it's also adventurous and fun! The Duck is a vehicle that drives on Seattle's city streets along the Elliot Bay waterfront, past the sports arenas, through Pioneer Square, up Hwy 99, then plunges into Lake Union with stunning views Seattle's skylines and GasWorks Park. The tour guide is a historical hoot, with music, jokes, dancing and laughter. And don't forget QUACKING!!!

Sunshine Shining on Me! I can't wait to ...

Fall is in the air ~ leaves cover more of the ground each morning, and it's darker longer each morning and sooner each evening. On a bright and sunny day, the air is crisp and cool! We get to wrap in warm sweaters and nothing is better than a warm beverage cup on cool fingertips. I love Fall!! And we are making the most of the greatest of days! We enjoyed Sunday afternoon at Zuanich Point Park ...
Kate practiced her balance on my girlfriend Clara's kids' skateboard. She demonstrated an amazing sense of balance. It reminded me of my sister, who amazingly as a child could balance on her knees on top of the knee board, while floating in the water and waiting for the boat to "hit it." This was quite impressive for ~ as anyone who has ever knee-boarded knows ~ pulling yourself up and onto your knees while battling the wake and the pull of the ski-rope is the hardest part! She was able to skip the challenge and start where the fun began! Can't wait to see if Kate has that same talent!
Our Little Monkey (look closely ~ her shoes are on the wrong feet!)
Owen has been our Caterpillar-Whisperer this season. He seems to have a sixth-sense about where they are hiding and loves to befriend each one.
Marcel on the other hand is greatly taken with Katelyn. Wherever she went, he followed. He watched her closely, studying her and trying to make her laugh! He brought her "treasures" from around the park, including a large branch that he beat on the ground making music that she danced to! It was so cute! When she sat on this monument, he rushed to sit beside her, talking to her and trying to hold her hand. (how young it all begins, really!). All of his demur was fascinating to Kate ~ she played right along, innocently "driving him crazy." Ultimately he leaned in for a kiss, and she backed further and further away then leaned her forehead in for a snuggle. Good girl, Kate. He was pleased too and ~ with a big grin ~ then rushed off to pick pine cones from the brush with Collin, Owen, and MaryJane.

*Interestingly, at the same time this was all going on, MaryJane had instructed the boys that they were all to play house. Collin was the Dad, MaryJane was the Mom, and Owen was the Son. They had built their house in the forest and were preparing a meal of "ribs and corn like Grandpa Jacobs made" when MaryJane rushed over to Collin and said something to the effect of "Ok, here's what you're going to do." He immediately turned to her and said, "You don't need to tell me what to do! I'm the DAD! We should tell Owen ~ our SON!" Owen just went on gathering pine cones.

Shaw Day Trip

We spent Friday galavanting the ferry system and the great island Shaw! We were tentative at first because the forecast called for rain, but we lucked out and had bright blue skies most of the day! But the night before, it had definitely rained. And leave it to my kids to find the one leftover puddle on an otherwise dry ferry deck ~ and for Kate to fall into it! (in her defense, her brother ran straight into her ~ or they ran straight into each other ~ tough to say! at any rate ...) she was getting all kinds of "so cute" comments before the puddle-incident, but afterwards ~ you couldn't help but smile ~ and most ended up laughing at the cutest sight ever!

I caught this shot just in time as he was turning to say "AHHH! It's Cold!"
Our beach comber
We drove onto the ferry but biked the island. Kate took a nap in one of her favorite places ~ with the sea scent and fresh air swirling around and the warm sunlight on her fingers and toes!

Kate was interested at first ~ then she touched it. And she prompty pointed repeatedly to the water below to get Grandpa to put it back in the water. He didn't understand (he didn't know she signed "Down"!) so she started to pull it down and show him what she meant! He got it that time! Put that thing back where it came from ~ Yuck! ; )

Our departing ferry was running late, but a deer showed up and the boys honed their tracking skills! The deer "played" for a good half hour!!
