"Old" to a 4 Year Old

Owen: Mom, you were 31. Now you're 32. You're old. 'Cept we're not. Well, I'm not. Collin is 6. I guess he's old too. (It's all relative to a 4-year-old.)

Note: Collin is not yet six but Owen is (somewhat justifiably) confused because we've been saying for months now that Collin was going to start kindergarten just after he turned six. Then, unexpectedly, an opening in the kindergarten at our childcare came up last Friday, and we jumped on it. Collin started this week, and his class in now in a separate building with a separate playground. So, Owen is kind of going through mourning because (1) he used to see Collin every day, many times a day, and he loved it; he doesn't see him now; instead he worries about where Collin's gone and if Collin is ok; and (2) when did Collin turn six and where was Owen when the rest of us were throwing the big party?! *Or maybe you don't get birthday parties once you're as old as a six-year-old?!
